MSU Career Fair a Success!

October 24th was one for the books for the Northwest Chapter. We facilitated our first Career Fair at MSU that consisted of one on one conversations with at least 60 students and collected contact information from about 20 students. The majority of the students had never heard of the industry. Thank you to the Future Workforce Committee, we were able to provide salary sheets and a list of different potential types of jobs. “It was dynamic and fast-paced and gave us the opportunity to speak directly with lots of students.” Nicole Klein & Rebecca Thompson reported after the event.  “Several students expressed a desire to visit the convention center to better understand the inner workings of tradeshows.” The most interested students were studying in fields that were adjacent to the events industry, such as graphic designers, one event planner (he had helped with the MSU event), several construction management and mechanical engineering folks who are also blue-collar workers on the side. Those who identified as creative and didn’t mind working with their hands and putting things together, seemed like the most qualified candidates. So keep posted on what is to come next! You might even see us with a group of students wondering around the Denver Convention Center. 😉
